KUFRI,Shimla. A day in heavy snow fall. Best places to visit in Kufri.

 WINTER  WONDERLAND

Even though the winter was about to step down , i was determined to witness the snow flakes. Second day morning we woke up ,got ready and head towards Mall road  to have breakfast. The streets were  empty and all shops were closed. Don't expect early breakfast in Shimla. Hotels and Cafes open only by 11 am. We walk down the entire Mall Road searching for food . We waited for about half an hour and finally a restaurant opened but still we waited there for long for our order . We also take packed lunch for the day. After breakfast we reported at the travel agency and they took us down to the Bus station near to The Tibet Market. Our day trip was arranged in a mini van along with two honeymooners. The trip was so comfortable without  any rush. We had our time to enjoy. The first stop was Green Valley view point   ,a thick dense valley with huge pine trees. After taking picture we head towards Kufri.

                              

KUFRI

Kufri is a small quaint town located on a hilltop around 10km from Shimla. People who visit Shimla will spend a day at Kufri for a soul -quenching experience. The small town is quite popular for family vacations and for honeymooners .It is surrounded by a ring of Himalayan Ranges which makes it beautiful in every angle. Kufri is located at a greater altitude than Shimla and it is extremely beautiful in winter. Snow caped mountains look stunning. Our day trip was to Kufri and Mashobra Valley. Mashobra is a lush green valley situated at a height of  7700 feet above sea level. Unfortunately, we have to skip Mashobra Valley and return to Shimla due to heavy snow fall and road blocks. Our vehicle slips twice in turns. It is dangerous to drive through steep roads during heavy rainfalls.

The first time witnessing snowfall was five year back in Manali ,which is so special to me because it was with my husband. This time it was with my brother ,mother and son. It was initially a sunny  day .My hope to see snow was zero at that moment. But as we started moving towards Kufri  the white blankets of snow started shinning everywhere .Our first halt was at an adventure Park. If you are an adventure enthusiast Kufri has a numerous outdoor activities like Snow ski, Sledging etc. We paid around 3500/- for four of us including skiing accessories .

They provide us accessories like coveralls ,gloves and shoes suitable for snow skiing and drop us at the skiing location inside the park .It is like a ring of frozen ground suitable for skiing. There was already tourist skiing but was not crowded. We spent around one hour there taking videos ,pictures and enjoyed the snow fall. We took more time than usual so have walk back to drop the accessories .There are restrooms and food courts inside the park for refreshment .Returning from there we went to a view point  but it started snowing  heavy and was freezing inside out. We didn't walk much because of the snow fall and had our lunch inside the van. Our next destination was  Mashobra but the van started to slip in turns due to snow fall and because the heavy traffic we stop on the way to Mashobra and return back to Mall Road. More over safety is first.

They drop us at  Cart road near to a place called lift. I wondered hearing the name ,was that a huge lift to drop us up? Actually yes, a lifesaver , it is a elevate which drop us up near to the market where we can walk a short distance toward the ridge and its a paid service just 10 rupees each. Can you imagine climbing up  back to our room after a long day ? I am sure that will be a stressful ending for the day .Thank god who ever put that idea of Lift system in  Shimla ,Hats off!. 

But wait! let me check who it is . 

Yes, that was constructed by Department of Tourism under Shimla beautification plan. Well, that was really a beautiful plan. Any way we walked toward Mall Road to  the Gulab Jamun shop located near to the Flag Post. Do you want to know what to eat  and where to eat in Shimla. I have a separate blog for it .Do check. After having hot Gulab Jamun in freezing cold we walked around Mall and had our dinner from a North  Indian Restaurant and  head towards our Hotel. That day ends beautifully. Now came the struggle of visiting a cold place . Reaching hotel and trying to settle down in room is funny touching everything in the room is cold. Later trying to sleep is more funny .We can even hear our loud breathing. .Coming from a tropical place and sleeping without fan and its sound is horrible for me. I don't know whether this is the same for everyone.

Next day was for Food, shopping and sightseeing. Come along with me....
