SHIMLA SIGHTSEEING. All you have to know to plan a trip to Shimla
PLACES TO VISIT IN SHIMLA
Shimla charm us with its grandeur of the British Era and architecture. Shimla was the summer capital of British India ,lots of political activities and influence of British architecture gave Shimla numerous beautiful buildings. You simply feel like a foreign land here. What i felt at the first sight was unlike other tourist place it is clean and tidy .The Mall, Ridge everywhere its kept clean and tidy. Every evening the Municipal corporation vehicle collect the waste from every shops and cafes. That was pretty impressive .We spend three nights in Shimla. Three days is pretty much enough for sightseeing in and around Shimla .There aren't lot of things to do in Shimla. It is a place for just to relax. Walking through the streets and just feel the place. If you haven't read how to reach Shimla ,click here .We reached Shimla at 11.30 and checked in to hotel ,got freshen up and head out for lunch. I have written what to eat in Shimla in a separate blog in detail.
The Ridge is the large open space near the Mall road from where you can see incredible view of Shimla city. The Ridge is famous for government functions, fairs and the venue for all the celebrations and events conducted in Shimla. It is said that underneath the Ridge ,large water tanks are placed from which the water is supplied in the British Era Tourist Town. The Ridge open to the Mall road and Christ Church . You can just roam around ,have hot Gulab Jamun and witness the sky which speaks in a thousand colors.
CHRIST CHURCH
MALL ROAD
The most important hangout place in Shimla. It is a well maintained street for shopping and eateries. The Mall road is just below the Ridge .The office of Municipal corporation ,fire force and police headquarters are located here. There are plenty of souvenir shops, cafes, and restaurants here. No vehicle other than Ambulance is allowed in Mall Road. We stay just below the mall road .It take 5 minutes to reach up but climbing stairs was so tiering. You should be ready to walk and climb quite a bit steps if you are coming to Shimla. I was breathing like a dog climbing up and down the stair and slops. Most of the times Mall road is bustling with tourist mainly collage students, honeymooners .What i fond interesting is these college students are so fashionable and almost everyone have long locks just like the horse tail. I tried clicking few pictures of it. The British Era colonial Architecture amaze us in every nook and corner.
TOWN HALL
A Tudor style building right in the center of mall road with a great photographic background. The building have huge steps at its entrance which makes it favorite for snaps. This building have different offices of Shimla running and it also has a house library that can be visited while walking around Mall road .This really look like a cathedral from outside.
JAGGU TEMPLE
An ancient temple situated in the Jakhu hills of Shimla. I again remind you be ready to climb the steps to visit the huge statue of Lord Hanuman . Coming down is easy but climbing steps is tiring. This statue can be seen even from Mall Road. It is a huge red color statue facing Shimla. It is just 2.5km from the Ridge, but we came from Indian Institute of Advance study ,Another tourist location ,unfortunately it was closed to visitor due to Covid Situations. Check in google for latest update before heading to any tourist places to check if its open to Tourists. We walk all way from Ridge to Indian Institute of Advanced studies. So took a taxi to Jakhoo Temple which cost 600/-which includes waiting and droping off near the lift.
First day we spend around Ridge area and clicked pictures ,ate dinner at five. We noticed a travel agency notice board near the Scandle point about the day trip to Kufri. So we enquired and confirm the trip for next day. It cost 350 per head to Kufri, Mashobra and adventure activity park. We went back to room by 5.30 pm because it was freezing outside and passed out so early .
Winter was about to step down......Read more
